Once again, the striped, white canine had found himself walking down a forgotten path through the woods. Low hanging branches, starting to grow little springs buds would claw at his face and tall grass tickled his stomach as he pushed along. Arbiter would suddenly pause, ears perked towards the West. There was a mysterious cry followed by the subtle noise of rushing water. Not truly worried, but very curious the canine proceeded into the sounds direction. Was he going to be a hero today? The masculine pondered as he trotted.
The quiet water would crescendo into a raging roar as the canine approached its steep edges. It was a waterfall poring rushing water into a wide river filled with fallen trees and large boulders. Amber eyes scanned the white mist, ears attentively listening for the mysterious cry. There! An orange blur clinging onto a log. Arbiter, assuming the creature is a fox, knew he had to get to it quickly. There were a few clustered boulders further down the river where the water was more blue where the canine would easily sweep up the canine and assist it to shore. The fox shouldn't just trust this random wolf to help him, but Arbiter was sure going to try to persuade it. There was a leaning tree that was clinging onto the shore where Arbiter could climb across and speak to the orange creature, though it was going to be a challenge as it was very wet and thin. With a soothing inhale and exhale the wolf took his first step onto the damp bark. He'd place his paw down a few times to assure that his placement was steady before continuing to do the same process with his next step. Body low, he'd slowly crawl his way down the log. There was a few heart stopping slips which lead to wrapping himself around the log before taking a breath and proceeding.
"Hey!" Arbiter called out, face being sprayed by the falls. The fox saw the wolf briefly before a splash of water covered..
"Help!" The fox cried as he emerged.
"You need to let go!" The canine called back. He'd get a frantic shake of the head from the fox. "Trust me." The fox looked over its shoulder, down river and then back at Arbiter, giving him a nod.
Quickly, the wolf carefully climbed back up the log and back onto safe dirt before racing down river. Though, he stopped when he heard a yelp. The fox's grip had let go and now they were being thrown with the current. Heart pounding in his throat, Arbiter used all of his strength to sprint down the shore. He could hear the fox beside him gasping for air and crying for assistance. The cluster of rocks were so close, but they seemed so far as Arbiters legs grew tired. He pushed himself to points he never thought he had. Nearing the rocks, he'd leap onto them. Before the wold could catch a breath, his paws slipped from under his body. His shoulder crashed into the boulder before falling into the moving water. Arbiter would breach the surface with a quiet whimper before focusing back on his mission. There was no time to rub the pain away. Around the rocks, the fox would float by, white water carrying him quickly. The masculine lunged out and grabbed the creature by the side of the neck. The fox was limp in his jowls as Arbiter carried him to shore.
(Rushed I apologize. Have to go to work! Cliff Hanger!!!)
